Section/Tool House Notes:
Survey stations and mileposts were taken from the 1918 ICC right-of-way drawings. Sizes were taken from the 1918 ICC Valuation Reports. The 1913 Annual Report shows seven tool houses built at a cost of $898.99. It is assumed that the ICC dates are correct and the Annual Report reflects previous omission errors which were corrected. The passenger station at Towson Heights was moved to Red Lion March 20 & 21, 1957 to serve as an additional tool house and was located on the north side of the existing section house. Seven houses had the same width and depth according to the ICC Valuation Report. All have the same height (9' 6" + 14' 6") except Forest Hill which is shown as 8' + 12'. Fallston, which has a somewhat smaller footprint, is shown as having a height of 9' 6" + 14' 6", the same as the "standard" section houses. Were there actually eight "standard" section houses? The eight "standard" section houses were served by 3' x 4' oil houses except Fallston which had an 8' x 10' house. York was served by a 4' x 5' oil house. Delta did not have an oil house. |
