Society News PageSociety announces date for
The Maryland & Pennsylvania Railroad Historical Society will hold its 2009 Fall Get-Together on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the Odd Fellows Hall at 12210 Long Green Pike, Glen Arm, Maryland. Society members and guests are encouraged to bring and display Ma & Pa related items, including photographs, collectibles, memorabilia and scale models on the many tables that will be available in the hall. At about 1:00 p.m., Rudy Fischer will show a collection of black-and-white photographs taken in the early 1970s by Wayland L. Moore. Moore’s photographs were taken along the Maryland & Pennsylvania Railroad from York south to Delta, Cardiff and Whiteford, Maryland, and include images from the Peach Bottom and Slate Hill branches. Moore’s images were captured from track side as well as while riding on the engine and caboose of Ma & Pa freight trains. Download event flyer (pdf) for additional information and directions. Society adds content
The Maryland & Pennsylvania Railroad Historical Society is adding additional content to this web site to aid researchers looking for information about the railroad on the Internet. The Society has received permission from Charles T. Mahan. Jr., a life-long fan, photographer and historian of the Ma & Pa Railroad, to provide information on this web site from his decades of reserach of the railroad. This information will be found on the Historical Information page of the web site. This will be a long-term project to make the wealth of information available to persons researching the locomotives, rolling stock, structures and other details about the railroad. Taylor's Trestle
Joseph Laucks, a Boy Scout from Dallastown, Pennsylvania, is working on his Eagle Scout project, which is to preserve Taylor's Trestle in Red Lion as part of the "Red Lion Mile," a rail-trail project in the Red Lion area. Joseph is currently working on a web site about the history of Taylor's Trestle, as well as information on the project to preserve and restore Taylor's Trestle. Joseph's web site can be found at www.taylortrestle.org MA & PA MAILING LISTThose of you who may have the interest in discussions of Ma & Pa history, equipment and modeling may want to join the Ma & Pa Railroad email list at YahooGroups for this purpose.
