The Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad Historical Society is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization, whose mission is to collect and preserve the history of the Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad in personal recollections, photographs, documents, memorabilia, and models. We seek to promote the discovery, enjoyment, and modeling of this railroad!

A number of Society members are model railroaders. Many of our publications, drawings and sale items are geared toward the modeler. The Society is an independent group affiliated with the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA).

Society Announces 2016 Fall Get-Together

Richard Anderson and the No. 17The Maryland & Pennsylvania Railroad Historical Society's annual Fall Get-Together will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Steam Into History, New Freedom, Pennsylvania.

From 9:00 a.m. until 9:50 a.m., the Society's "Company Store" will be open, weather permitting, trackside by the Steam Into History building.

From 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Society Superintendent Richard Anderson will provide a presentation on a Civil War soldier's clothing, rifle and knapsack in the rear of Paesano's Restaurant, directly across the street from Steam Into History.

From 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.,representatives of Steam Into History will provide a presentation on the development of their present operations in the rear of Paesano's Restaurant, directly across the street from Steam Into History.

From 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., there will be a break for lunch. Lunch items from Paesano's can be pre-ordered (see the event flyer for additional information).

From 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Society members will ride the "Gilmor's Raid - Glen Rock Express" steam train and witness a re-enactment of this historic raid. Information on pre-ordering tickets at the group rate is on the event flyer.

From 1:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., Society members will enjoy a maintenance shop tour at Steam Into History, and listen to a mechanic 's presentation.

From 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., the Society's "Company Store" will be open once again, weather permitting, trackside by the Steam Into History building.

At 3:00 p.m., the Steam Into History locomotive will be put into the shop after the return of the 2:00 p.m. train.

"Mister Ma & Pa" Charles T. Mahan, Jr. Passes Away

On Friday, April 26, 2013, the Ma & Pa world was shocked by the news of the passing of the long time unofficial historian of the Maryland & Pennsylvania Railroad, Charles T. "Charlie" Mahan, Jr. Charlie was 88 years old, and while many were aware that he had been in steadily declining health for the last several years, getting the news was still shocking.
